They say there is a reason, they say that time will heal.  But neither time nor reason will change the way we feel.  For no-one knows the heartache that lies behind our smiles.  No-one knows how many times we have broken down and cried.  We want to tell you something, so there won't be any doubt.  You are so wonderful to think of.  BUT SO HARD TO LIVE WITHOUT...              unknown arthur

Great Friends

This was sent to Elyse Cannon Memorial Website on Saturday, April 26, 2008 12:11am:

From: Jon Harris, great friends all through elementry and middle school.

Mrs. Cannon.  My name is Jonathan Harris, I was close friends with Elyse when she first came to Jenks school and all through middle school.  I still remember going to the skating rink every Friday night and waiting with her until her parents picked her up.  I always had a little childhood crush on her.  I will never forget when we were at all night skating rink lock in, and she was cold.  So I gave her my hoody.  The whole time while she was wearing my hoody she kept asking me if I was cold but I would always lie and say no cause I wanted her to be warm.  I am now serving our country in the army infantry.  I am stationed in Fort Drum with the 10th mountain infantry unit.  I did not learn she has passed away until after I got basic.  I cried for nights and nights cause she is the most amazing girl ever.  I wanted u to know that this past month I have been going through very intense training to serve our country, and it seems like everytime I am having a hard time that Elyse is my motavation, she is what keeps me pushing on in all the hard time cause I know shes watching over me and proud of what I am doing, I am going to Iraq soon and I have no fear cause I know Elyse is watching over and protecting me.  I cant wait to see her again one day and see her smile when she tells me how proud she is of me.  Elyse is what keeps me coming everyday no matter how hard it is so that everyone is safe back home no matter how far away I am.  Elyse would always have a smile on her face and that is the only thing that comes to mind when I think of her.  She was one of the amazing girls I have ever met and people like her are the reason I fight for our country.  Please email me if u get this message so I know that u got this cause it means alot to me.  I will always remember her as the girl I would skate with and hold hands with and make me smile non-stop.  God bless America and each and everyone of us as Elyse smiles down on us.

A note sent from Dr Stephen Adelson on 10/22/07

Dear Mr & Mrs Cannon

I read Elyse's chart - when she was 8 she didn't want to go to school because the teacher was mean.  I can remember that.  I'm sure she was right.  Pediatricans do not have favorite patients - but we do and clearly she was one of mine.  And I know there is nothing worse than losing a child.  I hope both of you can reach some sort of peace with an agony that is unimaginable.  Elyse was an incredible child as I knew her.  Thank you for bringing her to me.
